NPHL at Guns and Hoses
January 23, 2012
Roanoke, VA – The Northern Professional Hockey League (NPHL) recently took part in Roanoke’s annual Guns and Hoses charity hockey game.
It was another record-setting year for the Guns vs. Hoses charity ice hockey game! The 9th annual game between area law enforcement and fire and rescue personnel set a new attendance record with 6,100 fans, topping last year’s crowd of 5,700. More importantly, the event raised a record $27,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, breaking last year’s total of $20,500.
NPHL Director of Player Development Mike Chighisola as in attendance for the game and met with local hockey fans, NPHL supporters and potential investors.
“As Director of Franchise Development for the new Northern Professional Hockey League, I attended the charity game in Roanoke, Virginia for two reasons. First and foremost was to help raise money and awareness about the game which benefitted MDA. The second reason was to see if NPHL Commissioner Chuck Harrison and I were correct in our evaluation of Roanoke wanting a Pro Hockey team of their own, again.” Said Chighisola
“The night was a huge success. The people who coordinated the event came to me with the official numbers. They wanted me to know the numbers, because they thought they had to “prove,” to me that they wanted hockey back. The numbers showed me, what I already knew. The paid attendance was 6,082, the 50/50 raffle was $1,050.00, and the charity raised $25,562.00. Roanoke had done it again; they far exceeded the expectations of other potential NPHL cities. When it comes to hockey, Roanoke does not “reach the bar,” they “jump over it!”
The Guns won the game 5-1. It is their sixth straight win in the series.
